The best time to experience the wildebeest migration near the Mara River is generally from July to October, when large herds move through the Northern Serengeti and may attempt the dramatic Mara River crossings.

July–August: Excellent period for seeing large herds gathering in the Northern Serengeti and potential river crossings.

September–October: Still a strong migration period, with opportunities to witness herds around the Mara River before they gradually move south.

Tip: River crossings are a natural event and cannot be guaranteed on a specific day, as the herds move according to weather, water levels and grazing conditions.
