Robin exclaimed as we carried our bags through the entrance of the lodge known simply as The Edge.
He was right.

After settling into our rooms, it was time to explore another important part of the experience—the food.
Dinner was prepared using beef sourced from local butchers, and every bite reflected care, quality and respect for the ingredients.
Later, we wheeled the lodge’s mobile bar onto the terrace just as the sun began to disappear behind the hills. With an ice-cold gin and tonic in hand, we watched golden light dance across the treetops while the mountains slowly faded into shades of purple.
Few experiences compare with an African sundowner. Whether enjoyed with a classic gin and tonic, a glass of wine or a freshly pressed fruit juice, the ritual marks one of the most magical moments of any day in Africa.
As darkness approached, Sam shared an interesting story.
Before The Edge was built, the rocky hillside where the lodge now stands was one of the favourite resting places for local leopards. The predators were regularly seen watching the valley from these elevated cliffs while keeping an eye on baboons below—one of their preferred prey.
The baboons have probably welcomed their new neighbours. They no longer have to share the rocks quite so often with Africa’s most elusive big cat.
That evening they gathered on the rocky outcrops beneath the lodge, just as we enjoyed the final rays of sunshine from the terrace above.

The following morning we drove into Nairobi to shop for fresh supplies.
Descending from the hills, the city gradually unfolded before us as a vibrant world of commerce, colour and movement. Markets overflowed with fresh vegetables, fragrant spices and tropical fruits, while modern supermarkets displayed international products alongside Kenyan favourites.
The air carried an irresistible mixture of aromas—fresh coriander, warm bread, charcoal grills and premium cuts of meat. Voices blended with car horns, laughter and the sound of market traders creating the unmistakable soundtrack of Nairobi.
Together with Sam, we wandered through the markets selecting beef fillets, frozen chicken, crisp vegetables, wine and everything needed for another memorable evening at the lodge.
His knowledge of local produce and fair prices made the shopping experience feel effortless. Every purchase reflected quality rather than convenience.
It was far more than grocery shopping.
It was an authentic encounter with Nairobi itself—its people, colours, flavours and vibrant daily life.
Grass-Fed Kenyan Beef and Evenings Under the African Sky
Back at the lodge, the day’s shopping quickly became the evening’s feast.
Another unforgettable sundowner marked the end of the afternoon as the barbecue was lit once again. The star of the meal was beef from Kenyan cattle raised entirely on natural grass pastures. The result was exceptional—tender, juicy and full of rich flavour that reflected the country’s fertile landscapes.
Sam took charge of the grill with the calm confidence of someone who truly understood outdoor cooking. Every detail mattered, from the temperature of the coals to the perfect resting time before serving.
As darkness settled over the valley, small lanterns illuminated the terrace while the sounds of the African night slowly replaced the silence of dusk.
Baboons moved quietly among the trees below, and somewhere in the distance faint, mysterious calls drifted across the hills. Perhaps they belonged to a leopard still patrolling the rocky slopes in search of baboons or careless livestock.
The evening breeze carried the scent of dry grass and warm African soil into the house, completing an atmosphere that felt both peaceful and untamed.
Eventually, we retired to our bedrooms, where soft moonlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows and spread across the valley below. The sweeping panorama became the final image of the day before sleep took over.
